New Postwick Transmitter Starts in BBC East Anglia Week

When the fourth East Anglia Week of the Midland Region of the BBC is held this year from June 19th to 25th, the main base of operation will be Yarmouth, as in 1947, and the new Postwick transmitter will come into operation. For this week the main programme of the region will come from Norfolk and North Suffolk, and although the programmes will have a general East Anglia and seaside tone, they are designed to hold the interest of listeners in the rest of the Midlands.

Norfolk listeners in particular will be interested to learn that the new transmitter at Postwick, working on a power of 5kw, will come into operation for the week and thereafter. This should mean a better signal strength for the coastal fringe, especially as in addition to the increased power, the new transmitter has greatly improved aerial equipment. The Postwick transmitter replaces the old transmitter in Norwich and will have a ten-fold increase in power. This does not mean a ten-fold increase in radius but should give a much better reception in what is known to be a difficult area.
